Our Story

How it all started...

The Church was started in March of 1933 in the home of Sis. Julia Williams under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Charles J. Eason with Sis. Doris Eason, Sis. Ellen Sims, Sis. Julia Williams, Sis. Alice Prince and Sis. Violet Hilliard leading a group of Sunday school children. Under God, the church continued to grow and a church building was purchased at 210 Santos St. In 1940 a lot was purchased at 2203 E. Commerce later addressed as 2703 E. Commerce and presently addressed as 2711 E. Commerce.

The 1st Anniversary was celebrated in the spring of 1940 under the pastoral leadership of Rev. C. J. Eason and Rev. Octavia Eason. In 1943, when the Lord called Rev. C. J. Eason home, the church continued with Rev. Octavia Eason, Rev. Willie Hill and Rev. S. B. Tyler.

Rev. David I. Scott served as pastor from 1944 until 1947. Rev. S. B. Tyler served from 1947 until 1950; under his leadership, an education building was erected. Rev. S. D. Brown served from 1950 until 1957. Rev. J. E. Shankle, Rev. Julia Williams, Rev. John Ware and Rev. Octavia Eason led the church until 1958. Rev. Emery C. Williams served from 1958 until 1962; under his leadership the parsonage at 446 Canton St. was purchased.

Rev. I. W. Mitchell became pastor in 1963 and served until 1967 when he started the Greer Street Church of God, which was an outgrowth of the East End Church of God. Rev. Emery C. Williams served from 1967 until 1970. Rev. Daniel Alexander and visiting ministers served until 1973 when Rev. Dock Hancock became pastor. In 1987, during the church’s 54th Anniversary, a ground breaking ceremony took place with founding and charter members Sis. Alice Prince, Sis. Ellen Sims and Sis. Doris Eason participating. The present building was built under the leadership of Rev. Dock Hancock and dedicated in July of 1989. He served until 1992 with Sis. Debra Jones, associate pastor, serving from 1992 to 1993. In April of 1993 Rev. Ron Lister became interim pastor, becoming pastor in January of 1995 and serving until 1997.

Visiting ministers served from 1997 until January 1999 when the Lord merged East End Church of God and Greer Street Church of God back together with Rev. Dr. James A. Daniels becoming pastor. Under his leadership, the mortgage was paid off in 2004 and in 2005 the church became the Reconciled East End Church of God.

On August 30 , 2020,  the ministry was relaunched,  with a greater focus on community outreach, as New Beginnings Ministries Church of God.
